Reggie Bush, a former USC running back, was officially reinstated by the Heisman Trust on Wednesday, and as a result, he will officially collect his 2005 Heisman Trophy.
Following the NCAA fines against USC in 2010, which included claims that Bush had received inappropriate advantages during his time as a Trojan, Bush was compelled to give up his Heisman Trophy.
In addition, USC forfeited its 14 overall wins and the 2004 national championship as a result of NCAA sanctions. Additionally, a replica Heisman Trophy will be sent to USC by the Heisman Trust, and Bush will be invited to attend future ceremonies.
Following Bush’s reinstatement on Wednesday, former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel expressed his support for the president.
“I’m ecstatic for my partner, @ReggieBush,” Manziel wrote on Twitter.
Manziel, who has been a staunch supporter of Bush’s restoration over the past three years, also praised the Heisman Trust for “doing the right thing.
Manziel added, “I appreciate the @HeismanTrophy for standing up for what’s right and accepting a legendary figure from our past back into the fold. Throughout this process, a lot of voices raised their support for Reggie just because of the kind of person he is. @ReggieBush, I’m excited to share the stage with you in December. You are deserving of it.
For the Trojans in 2005, Bush amassed 1,740 running yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. In their second straight BCS National Championship game, he guided the Trojans to victory over Vince Young and the Texas Longhorns, but USC was defeated.
Bush amassed 3,169 running yards, 25 rushing touchdowns, 13 receiving touchdowns, and 1,301 receiving yards during his three seasons at USC. With more than 1,500 kick return yards and 559 punt return yards, he was a threat on special teams as well.
