The extended, two-week Masters tournaments are “hurting” the sport, Stefanos Tsitsipas has warned the governing body. It happens as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz were forced to withdraw from the Italian Open due to injuries, and Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal both experienced early exits. Furthermore, the eighth-ranked player in the world thinks that players will continue to experience physical strain from the demanding schedule.

The fact that the mixed ATP and WTA events in Madrid and Rome now take nearly a month to conclude has generated a lot of discussion about the lengthier Masters 1000s in recent weeks. These are two of several larger events that, after expanding their draws and formats, currently run for 12 to 13 days.

Tsitsipas has since made another accusation, stating that players’ bodies were suffering as a result of the new format. When asked if he thought there was a chance to win both the French Open and Rome because Djokovic and Nadal were out early and Alcaraz and Sinner were injured, the 25-year-old chose to argue otherwise.
