Good News: Just now, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in talk to sign a New England Patriots quarterback this offseason

Steelers Press to Sign Patriots QB

The Pittsburgh Steelers could target a veteran New England Patriots quarterback this offseason.
While owner Art Rooney II expressed his preference for the Pittsburgh Steelers to re-sign either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields as their starting quarterback next season, the team will need to add a backup at the position in the coming months as well.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will also need to add a backup quarterback in the upcoming months, even though owner Art Rooney II stated that he would like to re-sign Russell Wilson or Justin Fields as their starting quarterback for the upcoming campaign.

Pittsburgh may bring in a veteran through a trade or free agent acquisition, or they could go to the NFL Draft and pick a youngster with some upside who would also be on a cheap rookie deal.

Andrew Vasquez of Steelers Wire thinks the team should consider Jacoby Brissett, a signal caller for the New England Patriots, if it decides on the latter of those three alternatives.

“The 32-year-old Jacoby Brissett had a quiet 2024 campaign, throwing for just under 900 yards in five starts,” Vasquez stated. Like Joe Flacco and James Winston, he provides vital experience at the quarterback position, but the Patriots’ offense as a whole got off to a sluggish start this past regular season. Brissett is without a doubt among the top backup quarterbacks available in the 2025 free agency class, and the Steelers most definitely need quarterback number two.

Last March, Brissett inked an $8 million one-year contract with New England. He started the regular season as the team’s starting quarterback, but rookie Drake Maye overtook him by Week 6 and never gave up the position.

Brissett recorded 826 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in portions of eight Patriots games.

After being selected in the third round by New England in 2016, the 32-year-old was traded to the Indianapolis Colts the following season. In addition, he has played in 87 games (53 starts) with the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, and Washington Commanders, recording 11,400 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions.

The Steelers would undoubtedly gain from having a seasoned backup with a wealth of experience on the team, and Brissett is probably the best candidate to meet that need. On his new contract, he won’t take up a lot of cap space, and if he were paired with Fields or Wilson, the team would have two excellent alternatives at the most crucial position on the field.
