During a historic season, Aaron Judge passes Babe Ruth for the Yankees record.
Re-signing Juan Soto is the New York Yankees’ primary priority this winter. Yankees supporters would undoubtedly be happy with that offseason if they could just complete that trade, since it would mean that Soto would spend the next ten years playing in the Bronx.
However, what would happen if Soto couldn’t be brought back by the Yankees? What if Soto stays in the Big Apple with their Subway Series adversary after Steve Cohen and the New York Mets outbid the Yankees?
In the unlikely event that the Yankees miss out on Soto, they had best have a solid contingency plan. Should they do so and their contingency plan fail, the supporters might simply set Yankee Stadium on fire.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network recently mentioned a possible fallback option in the event that the Yankees miss out on Soto. To be honest, it doesn’t sound all that horrible.
“Can you image Juan Soto not being signed by the Yankees? After that, they might switch to a lineup that includes Christian Walker, Anthony Santander, and possibly Willy Adames,” Morosi stated on MLB Network.
Last season, Santander, Walker, and Adames combined for 11.1 WAR. It is equivalent to 3.7 WAR per player. By alone, Soto recorded an 8.1 WAR, which is twice the average of the other three. Simply something to remember.
The addition of a starting pitcher, such as Max Fried or Corbin Burnes, should greatly thrill Yankees supporters.
Everyone wants Soto at the end of the day. The first, second, third, and fourth priorities are that. But it doesn’t sound like a nightmare scenario for the Bronx Bombers to have a strong backup plan that involves bringing in several All-Stars.
