It was a terrible setback for Carlos Alcaraz to lose his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, for the Australian Open before to the first Grand Slam of 2024.
Alcaraz will take part in a five-week preseason program starting on December 8 in an effort to prepare him for the Melbourne event in January by putting him through his paces.
However, Ferrero will have to finish his preparations without him when it was discovered that he requires arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, which would prevent him from traveling to Australia.
Samuel Lopez will substitute for Ferrero for the two-week competition, as MARCA is aware that the former tennis player will need crutches after surgery.
After using crutches for a long time, his first matchup with the 20-year-old is expected to happen at Indian Wells, the US Masters 1000 event that begins on March 6. will not skip a single practice with his players, even following surgery.
Samuel Lopez will be Ferrero’s replacement.
Ferrero has been the two-time Major winner’s coach since he began his professional career in 2019 at the age of sixteen, so it goes without saying that losing his trusty mentor will be terrible.
But there’s no doubting that Alcaraz is in good hands with Lopez, a skilled trainer who also acts as Pablo Carreno Busta’s coach, another Spanish star.
The Spaniard and Alcaraz had already worked with when the El Palmar native joined the world number two for Queen’s earlier this year, leading to a title victory.
Alcaraz faces challenges.
