Together, WWE and UFC will provide a massive, never-before-seen televised event.
The announcement of the news Friday night stunned followers of mixed martial arts and wrestling.
The collaboration between TKO Group Holdings and the UFC and WWE confirmed that NXT Battleground will take place on Sunday, June 9, at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
This will be the first-ever WWE event held at the brand-new, 130,000-square-foot production and event complex.
The Apex can accommodate about 1,000 spectators and was designed to accommodate both studio and live events.
Both Dana White’s Contender Series and UFC Fight Night events take place there.
We are always exploring new frontiers to showcase NXT and we are delighted to bring Battleground to this world-class event and production center in cooperation with UFC,” stated Shawn Michaels, senior vice president of talent development and creative for WWE.
The news was met with excitement from fans as well; despite the venue’s low capacity, one even suggested that they make it “WrestleMania next.”
There will be a new look in the Apex, stated another. I’m curious to see how a WWE show will appear in that space.
Another person said, “This is great.” “Excited to see the show! One of the best business moves you’ve made is partnering with us.”
