Club urged to avoid move for Manchester United man—journalists can’t see the point in transfer
Given that Christian Eriksen was unable to force his way into Manchester United’s plans this season despite their injury problems, Ajax should hold off on making a deal for him this summer.
Journalist Valentijn Driessen, who is vehemently opposed to the midfielder going back to his old team, claims as much.
Eriksen has been connected to a summer return to Ajax, as multiple sources indicate that INEOS, the new owners of the team, intend to make changes at Old Trafford and that he may be a part of a mass departure.
The Denmark international is currently in the last year of his contract with Manchester United, so if the team wants to keep him instead of losing him on a free transfer, they will need to decide this summer.
It has been argued that a return to Ajax would be in everyone’s best interests. It is thought that the Dutch powerhouses are searching for players who possess the elusive “Ajax DNA” in an attempt to rebuild after a terrible few years.
Eriksen would be a good fit, having come through Ajax’s junior system and playing 163 games before moving to Tottenham in August 2013.
However, Driessen thinks Ajax ought to refrain from making any attempt to sign the Manchester United player.
“He was mostly on the bench and Manchester United had 120,000 injuries,” he remarked.
“What’s your point in the Netherlands, when he doesn’t even get to play at number eight in the Premier League?
“If you want to keep growing, you shouldn’t be classified as an Eriksen. He was an excellent player, but those days are long gone.
