Mountaineers Announce Exciting 2025 Baseball Schedule

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, alongside the Big 12 Conference, has unveiled the 2025 baseball schedule, marking an exhilarating season ahead for the Mountaineers and their fans. The 56-game calendar includes 25 home contests at Wagener Field at Kendrick Family Ballpark and features a competitive lineup, with 14 games against teams that reached the 2024 NCAA Tournament, including two regional hosts.

The Mountaineers are coming off a historic 2024 season, finishing with a 36-24 record and advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time in program history. Under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Steve Sabins, WVU enters its 133rd season looking to build on that momentum and continue its strong performance in collegiate baseball.

Season Opener and Key Early Matchups

The Mountaineers begin their 2025 journey with a four-game series at Jacksonville from February 14-16, where they’ll play a Saturday doubleheader. This opening series will be followed by another road trip to Nashville, Tennessee, where WVU will face Lipscomb from February 21-23.

West Virginia’s first home game is scheduled for February 25, when they host Ohio, marking the second consecutive year WVU has played a February home game. The Mountaineers then head to Charlotte for a four-game series against Queens University from February 28 to March 3, setting the stage for a busy early-season lineup.

Home Stand Highlights and Big 12 Play

Baseball - West Virginia University Athletics

The Mountaineers return to Kendrick Family Ballpark for four straight home games beginning March 7 against Kennesaw State, followed by a matchup with Towson on March 11. Big 12 play kicks off with a trip to Oklahoma State from March 14-16. Following this, WVU will enjoy a six-game homestand, highlighted by their first meeting with James Madison since 2014 on March 18-19.

A major highlight will be Arizona’s arrival in Morgantown from March 21-23. The Wildcats, who hosted the 2024 NCAA Tucson Regional, will meet WVU on their home turf for the first time. The Mountaineers will cap off the homestand with a game against Marshall on March 25.

Road Trips and Notable Opponents

One of the season’s unique highlights includes WVU’s inaugural trip to Provo, Utah, to play BYU from March 27-29, followed by a visit to Ohio State on April 1. The following day, the Mountaineers will host rival Pitt in the season’s first Backyard Brawl.

In early April, the Utah Utes make their first-ever visit to Morgantown, followed by Penn State on April 8. Later, West Virginia will meet Houston in the Space City for a three-game series from April 11-13, marking their first matchup since 2024.

Stretch Run and Season Finale

The Mountaineers’ stretch run includes a series against Texas Tech from May 2-4, followed by another Backyard Brawl at Pitt’s Charles L. Cost Field on May 6. WVU will then face Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas, from May 10-12 before concluding the regular season with a home series against Kansas from May 15-17.

The 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship is set for May 21-24 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, home of the 2023 World Series Champion Texas Rangers. This year, the championship introduces a single-elimination format with 12 teams, with the top four seeds receiving a first-round bye.

The 2025 schedule is packed with competitive matchups, including high-profile games against ranked teams, new opponents, and intense Big 12 rivalries. Coach Sabins and the Mountaineers are primed for an unforgettable season as they seek to elevate the program’s reputation on the national stage.
