World No. 33 Tomas Machac humorously accused Jannik Sinner of breaking his racquet during their semifinal clash at the Shanghai Masters. Sinner, the Italian tennis star, emerged victorious after a one-hour and 43-minute battle, winning 6-4, 7-5.

Sinner, playing in his second Shanghai Masters, is now just one win away from claiming the title. His recent form has been impressive, as he has won 21 out of his last 22 matches on tour, showcasing his dominance.

During their semifinal encounter, Machac lightened the mood by playfully suggesting that Sinner’s intense game was responsible for damaging his racquet. With his powerful all-around game and relentless baseline shots, Sinner’s style seemed overwhelming. Machac jokingly remarked, “Too fast, the rallies are too fast, the racquet is broken, you play too fast.”

Sinner has been one of the most outstanding players on the men’s tour this year. Out of 70 matches, he has secured 64 wins, including tournament victories in Melbourne, Rotterdam, Halle, Miami, Cincinnati, and New York. Additionally, he finished as the runner-up at the China Open, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the finals.

One of Sinner’s most remarkable achievements came at the 2024 Australian Open, where he made a deep run to secure his first Major title. He stunned the tennis world by defeating Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, ending Djokovic’s six-year undefeated streak in Melbourne. In the final, Sinner triumphed in a thrilling five-set match against Daniil Medvedev, coming back from two sets down to win 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. This victory solidified his reputation as a player who thrives under pressure.

Sinner’s winning streak didn’t stop there. He added another significant title to his collection by winning the US Open later in the year. Entering the tournament on the back of a title run in Cincinnati, he carried his form through to Flushing Meadows, where he captured his first US Open title. In the final, he outplayed Taylor Fritz in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

This season has also been significant for Sinner in terms of his rise up the ATP rankings. With his consistent performances and victories, Sinner has secured a place at the top of the rankings. He is now on track to finish the year as the No. 1 ranked player in the world, especially after Carlos Alcaraz’s early exit in the Shanghai Masters, which further opened the door for Sinner to claim the top spot.

At just 23 years old, Jannik Sinner has established himself as one of the most formidable players on the men’s tour. His consistent success across various tournaments this year, coupled with his breakthrough performances at the Majors, has made him a serious contender for the year-end No. 1 ranking. Sinner’s remarkable ability to win in both close contests and on the biggest stages demonstrates his growing maturity and readiness to take over the mantle of the next big star in men’s tennis.
