American gymnast Jordan Chiles lost her bronze medal in the floor exercise after the International Gymnastics Federation reinstated Romania’s Ana Barbosu to third place. This decision came after the International Olympic Committee confirmed the medal reallocation, following a Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling that invalidated an appeal from Chiles’ coach, which had initially placed Chiles ahead of Barbosu.
Chiles, who had qualified third for the floor exercise final, finished her routine with a score of 13.666, which was initially fifth behind Barbosu and another Romanian gymnast, Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, both of whom scored 13.700. Chiles’ coach, Cecile Landi, appealed for a correction to Chiles’ routine, resulting in a score adjustment that had placed Chiles in third. However, the appeal’s reversal has led to the reassignment of the bronze medal to Barbosu.
