The San Francisco 49ers’ 17–13 preseason setback to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday was not indicative of their actual loss, despite what the scoreboard said.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan disclosed that defensive back Ambry Thomas broke his forearm during their loss to the Titans after the game in Tennessee. Although Shanahan did not provide a timeframe for the cornerback’s comeback, he did inform reporters that “it will be some time.”

Following his selection from Michigan in the third round of the 2021 draft, Thomas has lived in San Francisco for three seasons. Thomas has 79 tackles and two interceptions in three seasons with the 49ers. The previous season, Thomas started six games for the 49ers.

For the 49ers’ No. 3 cornerback spot, the former Wolverine faced competition from Isaac Yiadom, Sam Womack, Rock Ya-Sin, Darrell Luter, and youngster Renardo Green.

Thomas is expected to miss time, so during training camp, Green and the other corners might see more reps.

The highlight of Green’s inaugural preseason game was his recovery from a fumble against the Titans on Saturday night.
