From August 9–11, 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers will host Alumni Weekend. Matt Kemp Day will mark the conclusion of the Dodgers’ series finale versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
A Kemp bobblehead will be given to spectators. Kemp is also officially retiring from the Dodgers by signing a one-day contract.
Kemp was initially chosen by the organisation in the sixth round of the 2003 MLB Draft. Among other honours, he was selected for two All-Star Games, won two Gold Gloves, and won two Silver Slugger Awards throughout his first nine seasons in the major leagues in Los Angeles.
At the conclusion of the 2014 season, Kemp was dealt to the San Diego Padres, where he played for a portion of the following two seasons. After that, he spent a portion of two seasons as a player with the Atlanta Braves before being traded back to the Dodgers.
With the Dodgers in 2018, Kemp experienced a comeback and was a key player in the team’s run for a second straight World Series victory.
Kemp spent the last two seasons of his playing career with the Colorado Rockies and the Cincinnati Reds, respectively. This past May, he declared his retirement and rejoined the Dodgers in an advising capacity.
Kemp played for the Dodgers for portions of ten seasons, hitting.292/.348/.494 with 240 doubles, 203 home runs, and 733 RBI. He also won two Silver Sluggers and two Gold Glove Awards.
Kemp expressed his excitement about going back to Dodger Stadium earlier this year.
I could put on a big-league uniform and live out my dream because of the Dodgers,” Kemp said in a statement. It’s thrilling to be back in Los Angeles and to be able to put that jersey back on and hang out with all the guys. It brings back memories.
