KANSAS CITY CHIEFS LAND TOP FREE AGENT LB: Team Signs Bobby Wagner to 5-Year Deal_
The Kansas City Chiefs have made a massive splash in free agency, signing All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner to a 5-year, $75 million deal. The move bolsters the Chiefs’ defense and gives them a dominant force in the middle of their linebacking corps.
Wagner, an 8-time Pro Bowl selection, spent the last 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, earning a reputation as one of the NFL’s top linebackers. He’s known for his exceptional instincts, tackling ability, and leadership.
“We’re thrilled to add Bobby to our team,” said Chiefs GM Brett Veach. “He’s a game-changer on defense and a true leader. He’ll be a key piece in our pursuit of another Super Bowl title.”
Wagner, 32, said he chose the Chiefs because of their winning culture and chance to play with QB Patrick Mahomes. “I want to win another ring, and I believe the Chiefs offer me the best chance to do that,” he said.
The deal includes $40 million guaranteed and a $10 million signing bonus. Wagner is expected to wear jersey number 54 for the Chiefs.
The signing addresses a major need for the Chiefs, who struggled at linebacker last season. Wagner’s presence will allow the team to move Willie Gay Jr. to outside linebacker, strengthening the entire unit.
Head coach Andy Reid praised the move, saying, “Bobby’s a true professional and a winner. He’ll bring a level of intensity and expertise to our defense that will make us better immediately.”
Wagner’s arrival has energized the Chiefs’ fan base, with many already envisioning him making game-changing plays at Arrowhead Stadium.
