The eagerly anticipated Olympic debut of Sha’Carri Richardson is off to a strong start.
At the Paris Summer Games, American sprinter Richardson won the 100-meter heat race on Friday in 10.94 seconds. The 24-year-old made it to the semifinals of the competition, which is scheduled for this Saturday. Should Richardson qualify, he will also compete in the final.
The Texas native, who is regarded as the fastest woman in the world after winning the 100 meters at the 2023 World Championships and the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials with timings of 10.65 and 10.71 seconds, respectively, has a very strong chance of doing that.
Richardson is competing in her first Olympics after being disqualified from the postponed 2020 Tokyo Games due to a marijuana drug test failure. She’ll compete as well.
In addition, on August 8, she will participate in the women’s 4×100 relay.
On Saturday, the 100-meter final is slated to take place at 3:20 p.m. ET, following the semifinals at 1:50 p.m. ET. Throughout the Summer Games, fans can watch Richardson and all of their favourite athletes on Peacock, which is providing users with an improved “multi-view” streaming experience.
