Kevin Durant and James Help Team USA Dominates Serbia in Olympic Open
Thanks to a combined total of nearly 40 points from Kevin Durant and LeBron James, Team USA dominated Serbia in their opening game of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
The former Texas basketball player Kevin Durant was unstoppable as he destroyed Team Serbia in the USA’s opening Summer Olympics match in Paris on July 28. Team USA’s all-time top scorer was shooting incredibly well from the field, setting new records for points, field goal %, and three-point field goal percentage.
Thanks to former Texas basketball sensation Kevin Durant, Team USA is off to a scorching start.
Durant scored 21 points in the first half on 8 of 8 flawless field goal attempts and 5 of 5 three-pointers. And he accomplished all of it while playing for Team USA off the bench.
It’s possible to argue that Durant’s offensive performance in the first half of the game was the best of his whole career since joining the NBA more than 15 years ago. Until today, Durant had never in his NBA or Olympic basketball career scored at least 20 points while shooting perfect from the field and beyond the arc.
LeBron James, a forward for the Los Angeles Lakers and another NBA veteran superstar, was one of the 20-point scorers for Team USA, which helped the stars and stripes defeat Serbia 110-84. James and Durant outperformed Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic, another NBA superstar for Serbia, who put up a decent effort of his own with 20 points and eight assists on over 50% shooting from the field.
Durant finished with a game-high 23 points after scoring two more free throws in the second half of the contest. He made 8 of 9 field goals, 5 of 5 shots from beyond the arc, and 2 of 2 free throws from the free-throw line. Durant committed one turnover in addition to adding two defensive rebounds.
The great forward for the Phoenix Suns kept up his current five-game Olympic streak of scoring 20 points in a game. Since the end of the 2020 Summer Olympics, he has scored at least 23 points in each of his past five games for Team USA.
As of right now, Durant and Team USA are 1-0 in Group C’s pool play at the Summer Olympics in Paris. On July 31, they will play South Sudan in a pool match with the possibility to win Group C.
