SAD NEWS: Just now 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy have a serious accident that almost claim his life due to…
All of the offseason, San Francisco’s decision to play the ball first in overtime during their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl will be discussed. After some 49ers players admit that they were unaware of the new overtime rules, that scrutiny will be even more rigorous.
Overtime ended as soon as one team scored for many years. The rule was then changed so that both teams had the ball—except when the first team on offense scored a touchdown. New England defeated Atlanta 34-28 in Super Bowl 51, which was the result of that TD in that scenario.
The Chiefs had to go for it on fourth-and-one, down three from their own 34, because Kansas City had that advantage this time. On a three-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Mecole Hardman, they finally reached the end zone.
San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan stated, “That is something we talked about.” “None of us has an enormous amount of experience with it.”
However, some 49ers players stated that they did not know about the rule. Arik Armstead, a defensive lineman from San Francisco, said, “I didn’t even know about the new playoff overtime rule, so it was a surprise to me.” “I didn’t even really know what was going on in terms of that,” she said.
Shanahan stated that he had discussed overtime scenarios with his analytics team prior to Sunday’s game. At least some of his players appear not to have been able to comprehend that conversation.
