SAD NEWS:I am leaving Ulster Rugby famous player Robert Boloucoune said after……
Ulster takes on Montpellier away on Sunday in the round of 16 of the European championship, following the departures of CEO Jonny Petrie and coach Dan McFarland.
The 26-year-old Baloucoune, though, claims that Ulster’s camp is still in a good mood.
The Ulster wing declared, “We definitely believe we’re good enough to go out and win this competition.”
While Ulster lost its first two games under interim coach Richie Murphy in South Africa against the Sharks and Stormers, Baloucoune sees real signs that brighter times could be on the horizon. Murphy will captain the Ulster team in France.
“Obviously, there’s change but we’re a tightknit group and we believe in each other,” he stated.
“We all work for each other and are fantastic friends. Not much has changed in that regard.
“Richie has arrived and communicated his desires to us. All that’s left to do is train diligently and in the manner that he desires.
“I think it shows in the way we played against the Stormers, he has had a change and it’s just us trying to build on that and keep going at it.”
Montpellier finished second from bottom in the rankings after losing their last two domestic league games, a 54-7 thrashing at the hands of Toulon and a 12-10 home loss to Stade Francais. Montpellier had won four straight games in the Top 14 from mid-February to early March.
With five losses in six games since defeating Leinster on New Year’s Day, Ulster’s record is dismal. This includes two crushing losses to Toulouse and Harlequins, which meant their only chance to compete in Europe this season would be in the Challenge Cup, the lower division.
