Three-star Australian big man Malili Asiata has committed to the University of Utah, marking his ninth pledge of the month and his eleventh in the 2025 class. Kyle Whittingham’s football program is gaining pace.

This past weekend, Asiata made her official visit to the Utah program. Asiata, an immigrant from Australia, participated in his debut football season at Aquinas High School in San Bernardino, California, this past year.

Utah was the last institution to bring him in for an official this month and was the first to offer him a scholarship. Asiata declared his intention on X:

Asiata is ranked No. 118 offensive lineman in the 2025 class with an 85 three-star rating, according to 247Sports’ own rating rankings.

Asiata is projected to start his career at defensive tackle, but Utah has been assessing him as a lineman on either side of the ball.

With his uncommon combination of size (6-foot-5 and 330 pounds), good athleticism, and overpowering power, he is a prospect that could be a diamond in the rough.

Asiata’s promise makes him the eleventh recruit in the 2025 class; he may choose to switch to offense but is expected to enter as a defensive tackle.

He now joins linebackers Christian Thatcher and Cyrus Polu, quarterback Wyatt Becker, tight end Drew Clemens, offensive lineman Soren Shinofield, defensive ends Nela Tupou & Max Fonoimoana, fellow defensive linemen Karlon Kaufusi & Sione, and two-way athlete JJ Buchanan in the class.

Utah is currently riding a lot of momentum and is off to a much faster start on the recruiting trail this cycle with 11 early commits.

Scouting View: Utah finds an underappreciated gem in a two-way performance JJ Buchanan: We break into what this attractive two-way athlete can provide the Utah program.

JJ Buchanan, a Coronado athlete from Henderson, Nevada, committed to Utah earlier today; this is a quiet but important recruiting class for the Utes.

Buchanan made a commitment while in Utah over the weekend. Since he’s not exactly a household name, it might not create much national excitement, but in our opinion, he’s one of the greatest two-way players in the area and a stock up guy.
