One of the clubs that has generated the most conversation during the NFL offseason is the Kansas City Chiefs. Even though they should be the reason for this because they are the reigning Super Bowl champions, more recent articles have not made reference to this fact.

Rashee Rice, a wide receiver, is being charged with a number of offenses after getting into a high-speed vehicle collision while reportedly traveling at 119 miles per hour. Charges against him for an incident with a photographer at a Dallas nightclub were also pending, but they have since been dismissed. Furthermore, there has been a rumor that he shot into someone else’s automobile while attending SMU.

Although everyone in the NFL may agree that Rice acted inappropriately, the recent remarks made by Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker and the remarks that followed have generated discussion among people, football fans and not.

A Commencement Speech by Harrison Butker, a kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs Drew Received Extreme Criticism

At Benedictine College, a private Catholic university, Butker spoke at commencement to the graduating class about his faith and shared opinions that many felt were demeaning to women, the LGBTQ+ community, and Jews.

In reference to women, Butker stated:

“To the women in attendance today, congrats on a fantastic job well done. You ought to be pleased with everything you have accomplished in your brief lives thus far. I want to take a moment to address you directly because I believe that you women have been the victims of the most heinous lies.

I’m going to predict that the majority of you are most excited about getting married and starting a family, even though some of you may go on to have prosperous jobs.

It cannot be stressed that a girl I met in middle school band class converted to Christianity, married me, and accepted one of the most significant titles of all: homemaker. Without her, none of my accomplishments would have been possible.

In the weeks that have passed since his speech, Butker has come under fire from several celebrities and media sources. His Chiefs teammates, including Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, have supported him in the interim despite disagreeing with his viewpoints.

Butker is on the board of directors of Regina Caeli Academy, a private Catholic homeschool hybrid, where the Chiefs kicker reiterated remarks he made at Benedictine College at a recent gala:

He stated, among other things,

“The need to be loved by the world stems from our sinful nature, and should never be greater than our love for Jesus and our desire to speak up for Him. No matter what resistance or even encouragement we receive, our constant desire should be to exalt God and not ourselves. I rely on the individuals closest to me for direction, but I never forget that I should be pleasing Jesus Christ, not other people.

Randi Mahomes, the mother of the Chiefs quarterback, approved of this specific passage in his speech to the gala attendees:

What Mahomes’ mother might think of Butker’s perspectives on women and their place in society is unknown. But in this instance, it appears that she agrees with his assertion that people ought to defend their convictions.

Regardless, a lot of supporters expressed their backing for both Butker and her in the comments.
