After the French Open, there’s a decent chance this match will overthrow Novak Djokovic as the world’s top player. The Italian would be at the top of the standings for the first time.

However, the world No. 2 at the moment made it apparent that he doesn’t care about his matchup with Djokovic.

On Monday, Sinner made his court debut after a month-long injury layoff, winning 6-3 6-3 6-4 against Christopher Eubanks.

He can only now collect ranking points after losing in the second round 12 months ago, and by the conclusion of the next two weeks, he might be the highest-ranked man. When questioned about his chances of breaking into the top spot for the first time, Sinner, however, seemed unconcerned.

Not at all. To be honest, I’m not thinking right now,” he remarked. “As I mentioned, I just want to get back where I want to be, trying to gain confidence every day. For me, right now, every shot I take, every practice session, and every match matters.

A hip ailment delayed Sinner’s clay season, so this was his first match in about a month. The 22-year-old withdrew from his home tournament, the Italian Open, and then withdrew ahead of the Madrid Open.
