URGENCY: As Detroit Lion Star is Back…….

URGENCY: The return of the Detroit Lion Star.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press and USA TODAY Network claimed that the team and the quarterback agreed on a four-year, $212 million contract, according to two sources involved in the negotiations. The people spoke under condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to disclose the financial terms of the agreement—which was still in the early stages of negotiation. Furthermore, the agreement guarantees $170 million.

Goff, who was paid less than Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who signed a $275 million, five-year deal extension last September, currently ranks second in the NFL in terms of average yearly value.

In 2023, Goff, 29, helped guide the Lions to their first postseason victory since 1992 and their first division title in thirty years. He passed for 4,575 yards and 30 touchdowns with a career-high completion percentage of 67.3%. He also threw 12 interceptions.

The deal emphasizes Goff’s comeback as a professional in Detroit. As the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, signal-caller and head coach Sean McVay ushered in a new era of football in Los Angeles. He received a four-year contract extension with a then-record $110 million guaranteed after assisting the Rams in winning Super Bowl 53.

However, in January 2021, the Rams moved Goff to the Detroit Lions as part of a transaction to acquire quarterback Matthew Stafford in order to strengthen the team in its title defense. The next season, Stafford guided Los Angeles to victory in Super Bowl 56. But the Lions, led by Dan Campbell, battled to a 3-13-1 record in their first season, even though Goff started at quarterback.
