LAS VEGAS (AP) Similar to his previous two Super Bowl trips, head coach Kyle Shanahan’s third trip was marred by another blowout late lead.
At the young age of 44, the San Francisco 49ers coach is one of the most prominent personalities in the game because he has created an offense that teams all over the league attempt to imitate and because of his extensive coaching background.
After San Francisco blew two late leads to lose 25-22 in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday, he just doesn’t have a Super Bowl title.
How you lose doesn’t matter to me. It stings to lose Super Bowls, especially when you think you can win them, according to Shanahan. “I believe that every team in the NFL should suffer until the very end, with the exception of one.” Although we’ve come very close, we haven’t succeeded. We’re in pain at the moment.
Shanahan’s 49ers lost this game after blowing a 10-point lead against Kansas City in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl four years prior, and they also suffered a more significant setback in the 2016 season while he was Atlanta’s offensive coordinator. That game, the Falcons let a 25-point lead slip away and fell to New England 34-28 in overtime.
Given that the 49ers were the top team in the league for the majority of the season and were ready to give Shanahan his first title, this most recent one may be the hardest to accept.
