Joe Schoen Giant General Manager, Announced that QB Daniel Jones is no Longer

Daniel Jones, the quarterback for the New York Giants, came in last in the CBS Sports power rankings. For NJ.com, Andrew Mills is with NJ Advance Media.

Though opinions on Daniel Jones are divided, the Giants have made it clear that they do not intend to select a quarterback in favor of sticking with their starter as he begins his sixth season with the team.

Although Jones’ 2023 season was marred by injuries, he performed well enough in 2022—including captaining the squad to a playoff victory—to secure a large contract extension.

A power ranking of starting quarterbacks was created by CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin, who emphasizes that it is focused more on present position than “the bigger picture.” Jones is ranked No. 32 in it, behind quarterbacks who have never played an NFL snap. Compared to players who might not even get a starting position in 2024, the Giants starter was ranked worse.

Reporter Jordan Raanan of ESPN Giants criticized X’s outrageous interpretation.

“The defamation against Daniel Jones has gone too far,” Raan posted on Wednesday. Two years ago, I was ranked sixth in QBR and in the top ten. Is he now worse than every rookie quarterback and career backup, even though he started four games in 2023? It’s ridiculous to think he’s a total scrub. In 2019, he fell three touchdown passes short of the then-rookie record. was 16 months ago, in a playoff victory, almost flawless. For a number of reasons, the previous season was a complete bust (he played terribly and missed the majority of those four starts with Andrew Thomas and Saquon). But it’s simply untrue to say that he is incapable of playing at all. The swing of the pendulum is too great.
