The champion of the US Open, Coco Gauff, has guaranteed her place in the Miami Open’s fourth round.
The Miami Open’s fourth round matchup between US Open champion Coco Gauff and Caroline Garcia is exclusive to Sky Sports Tennis, which also broadcasts over 80 other tournaments live each year, including the US Open.
Coco Gauff, ranked third, advanced to the Miami Open’s fourth round by defeating Oceane Dodin 6-4 6-0. She achieved this by winning ten games in a row.
Gauff had to save two break points in the first set after falling behind 4-2 in order to save from losing more ground. She then found her game against Dodin, who ultimately proved to be her downfall after she handed up consecutive double faults while serving for a 5-3 lead.
The victor of the US Open has now won 22 of her past 23 home matches since taking home the Washington crown in July of last year.
“Winning here at home would be insanely awesome,” Florida native Gauff said.
The best part of winning here, in my opinion, is being able to drive home with the trophy instead of having to fly and pack. Since I root for the Dolphins, maybe if I win here, they’ll win another championship in the Super Bowl.
Caroline Garcia will face the Frenchwoman in the quarterfinals after she upset Naomi Osaka, the former world No. 1 7-6 7-5.
“Caroline’s always a challenging player to play,” US Open champion Gauff said in her post-match press conference. That, I think, was my last defeat at her hands.
“She is tenacious. She is a well-known player. plays with extreme intensity and picks up the ball fast.
In order to prevent her from running me around the court, the player stated, “It will be crucial for me to just kind of stay on my game, get the ball deep in the court.”
