THE VOORHEES OF NJ (CBS/AP) General manager Danny Briere of the Philadelphia Flyers talked about Carter Hart’s leave of absence during the team’s scheduled midseason news conference on Wednesday at Voorhees, New Jersey’s practice facility.
Briere claims that the Flyers are “aware” of media reports about Hockey Canada’s 2018 investigation into sexual assault.
We are aware of the press reports from this morning on a very serious topic. We will respond appropriately once the investigation’s conclusions are made public, said Briere. The NHL has made it very clear that teams must contact them with any questions regarding probes. In the interim, employees of the organization, including the Flyers players, will not comment more.
Briere claimed not to have spoken with Hart. He continued by saying
Hart. He continued by saying that the flyers do not specify what will happen next.
Scott K. Fenton, Hart’s lawyer, and Judd Moldaver, the agency, have been contacted by CBS Philadelphia, but we have not heard back.
Police launched an investigation after word leaked out in 2022 that Hockey Canada had reached a settlement in a lawsuit brought by a woman who said she was sexually assaulted by eight members of that team during a banquet in London, Ontario.
After a rigorous independent assessment, Hockey Canada made major changes and lost important sponsors in the nearly two years after these and other scandals became public.Due to disagreements with Hockey Canada’s management of the situation, the board of directors resigned in October 2022 and CEO Scott Smith was sacked.
