Nick Saban has been replaced as head coach of Alabama by former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer in Tuscaloosa.
A key member of the Crimson Tide’s new roster is senior quarterback Jalen Milroe, who guided Alabama to a 12-2 record and the College Football Playoffs before falling to Michigan in the quarterfinals. The year before, Milroe was the team’s main starter.
In the latest edition of “The No. 1 College Football Show with RJ Young,” host RJ Young discussed Milroe’s potential with sports media figure Bomani Jones. Jones compared Milroe’s development to that of a former Texas great.

Although there can be large variations in the summer, I believe Jayden Daniels was a better player in 2022 than Jalen Milroe was in 2023.We’ve seen it occur, and to be very honest, I don’t know how large of a step he needs to take—I think he just needs to adjust a few things,” Jones remarked. “The variation in Vince Young’s passing ability from the 2004 and 2005 seasons is yet another excellent illustration of this.”
Milroe had a 172.2 passer rating, 2,834 yards, 23 throwing touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a completion percentage of 65.8% in the previous campaign. He also gained two scores and 531 yards in rushes. He took part in four games for the Crimson Tide.
