When NASCAR driver Erik Jones had to visit the hospital after his incident at Talladega over the weekend, there was cause for concern.
And now we understand the situation he was in.
Numerous reports state that Jones’s spinal fracture sustained in the collision will prevent him from competing in this week’s Dover race.
Legacy Motor Club said on Tuesday that Corey Helm will be driving at Dover and that Jones sustained a compression fracture in his lower vertebrae.
Our top priority is Erik’s long-term health, as co-owner of Legacy Motor Club Jimmie Johnson stated on the website. “We hope to give him the time he needs to heal completely, and it will be lovely to see him at the track on Sunday.
I’m confident Corey will lead the Club’s driving department with distinction. While this is going on, our thoughts and complete support are with Erik and his wife, Holly.
During the race, Jones’ car made contact with Bubba Wallace and slid front-end first into a wall.
Jones also revealed that he had a spinal fracture in a video that he uploaded on X, the previous Twitter platform, on Tuesday.
He stated, “I’m going to kind of take it week by week here and see how things go.” However, I’m hoping to get back in the automobile as soon as I can. Get well and quickly healed. I did, however, want to express my gratitude to Legacy for helping me through this.
He continued, I’m well, I’m at home, I’m recovering, and I’ll be getting back in the car soon.
Jones’s best result of the year was an eighth-place finish at Daytona. As of right now, he is ranked 20th in terms of points.
