The Buffalo Bills are keeping an eye on wide receiver Xavier Legette with only two days until the NFL Draft begins.
The South Carolina receiver, who is regarded as a first-round prospect, had a private workout with the Bills, according to a report from Ryan Talbot of Syracuse.com on April 23.
In the weeks before the draft, the Bills have held meetings with a number of other wide receivers. Many experts believe that, with the loss of Gabe Davis and Stefon Diggs, they will select a pass-catcher with their first-round pick.
Bills Had a Meeting With Xavier Legette This Year
Legette was interviewed by the Bills at the NFL Combine in March, and the prospect subsequently expressed some affection for quarterback Josh Allen.
According to reporter Josh Reed on X, Legette stated, “He’s a terrific quarterback and I feel like I could help that squad if I’m privileged to be able to accomplish that.”
The wide receiver mentioned how nicely his meeting with the Bills had gone and how much he enjoyed the thought of being a Buffalo player.
“I had a really nice talk. I thought the interview went rather nicely. Legette remarked, “All I want is for those guys to make it happen, if they can.”
Legette seems like a good fit for the Bills, who need skill after losing both of their best receivers, according to many pundits. Legette is coming off a “breakout” season at South Carolina in 2023, where he had 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games, as Nick Wojton of USA Today’s Bills Wire observed.
Legette did not produce much in college prior to 2023, but he made an impression on scouts by running the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds and doing well in the Senior Bowl.
Mel Kiper Jr., an ESPN draft expert, stated, “I thought Legette was a borderline one,” as reported by the Buffalo News. “However, given his performance at the Senior Bowl and his level of physical preparation going into the combine, I believe Legette will end up in the 23 to 32 range.”
Bills Might Make a Greater Advance
Although the Bills might land Legette at No. 28 and stay in that slot, some observers think they’ll take a riskier approach to make up for Diggs’ loss in a deal with the Houston Texans.
Rob Maaddi of The Associated Press projected in a mock draft that was released on April 16 that the Bills would trade up to the No. 4 overall pick in an Arizona Cardinals trade.
The Bills would be able to select top wide receiver prospect Marvin Harrison Jr. by making the trade, even though it would cost them numerous picks this year and a first-round pick the following year.
Following the Diggs trade, Maaddi stated that the Bills are under pressure to win a Super Bowl and that Harrison might be the right No. 1 receiver.
The Bills had not made such a significant leap in ten years, despite trading up in the first round each of the previous two years. In order to choose wide receiver Sammy Watkins in the 2014 draft, the team moved up to the No. 4 spot.
